HISTORY OF SEECHEM

HISTORY OF SEECHEM

Seechem was founded in the 1950s by Miss Barbara Quinney as Seechem School of Equitation. The Willetts family acquired Seechem from Miss Quinney in 1979 and it has remained in their ownership ever since.

The late Joan Willetts ran the business from 1979 until her untimely death in 2016.

Since then her daughter Julie Austin has managed the business assisted by her husband David Austin and with help on the administration front until recently from her late father Roger Willetts but her sister Jayne Willetts continues to assist. The family celebrated 40 years of ownership of Seechem in June 2019.

Many successful competition horses have been bred at the Seechem Stud none more famous than Barrister QC who when ridden by Caroline Webley was the British Show Jumping National Champion in 2008.

The competitive spirit of the Willetts family continues with Julie Austin competing at Advanced level in dressage with The Magistrate another home bred horse and with Joan’s granddaughter Rachael currently eventing at BE Novice level with The Burgomeister
